Blue Letter

It is the burned edge of a blue letter
crumpled back-drawer finding
when you least expect & gut
waves, washing the shore of
some distant past- whisper,
crash, fizzle, the silver wallpaper
in a Jersey boardwalk hotel
sea foam toes, an astonishing
baroque sky before the storm
a ramble into rough waters and
the up and down motion
pinball pivot point decisions
to stay to leave,
it all comes back.
