Dermatophagoides Farinae (American Dust Mite n Me)

April 9, 2018

Translucent creep, invisible
yet so very there
we meet in the bedroom
where you skinfeast
then shed, take me
down to my knees
a rattling wheeze
crackling cough
doubled over helpless
in what feel
like end days.

Our battle is long,
unfriendly pin prick.
This Goliath will not
go down without a
fight! While an outsider
might think otherwise,
labored-over laundry linens
and unwieldy mattress
protectors are fun
Ha, really fun. Watch
me wrestle with a mattress
queen, haul away
and heave ho
witness my strength
return. Cower with your
army while I cover you
in eternal darkness.

Shit where I sleep?
So be it, but
as long as there is
breath in these lungs
I’ll fight the good
fight, build my
battlements-cave
to new levels of
cleanliness, halt
this exchange, cell
for shedding cell.
